Question by stephrene: If someone asks “if I eat less than 800 calories a day will I lose weight” why do people say “no, because?
your body will store fat thinking it is starving”,…?
SO if that IS true, then why are people that do this(such as anorexic celebrities) so skinny? Is it just a way to talk you out of being anorexic or just people being misinformed on the subject? I know anorexic people DO eat so please do not say they don’t. Anorexic people eat less than 800 calories a day or every other day. If they did not eat at all, they would be dead within a week.
Thank you for the answers, every other question I have looked up is so two sided, its confusing

the point is that anorexia does kill, over time. it is habitual it is a mental health issue, and it does kill.
less than 800 calories a day will indeed result in weight loss, but it is not the kind of weight loss anyone should want, you don’t lose fat, you loose organ tissue you lose muscle tissue, your body consumes itself before it will start using it’s fat reserves, so people with anorexia lose weight alright, but it kills them in the end.

how long until “muscle weight gain” turns into “fat weight loss”? please help!!!!?

Question by tz: how long until “muscle weight gain” turns into “fat weight loss”? please help!!!!?
I am a 22 year old female, 5’3″ and 140 lbs. I have an adrenal/cone/apple body type, (36/29/35). My legs are pretty much pure muscle (used to be a jock). I have been on a sensible diet for months (50% carb, 15% fat, 35% protein), and have lost about 20 lbs in the last year. I am a vegetarian, but I get plenty of protein (thru soy, dairy and seafood). I track my food online daily and keep a VERY meticulous record of everything that goes in my mouth. Since I burn off between 500 and 800 calories a day through exercise, I end up consuming between 1400 and 1700 calories a day, which I know is a sensible range to lose 1-2 lbs a week. I have been VERY thorough about doing my reading on dieting and exercise. From what I understand, I do everything right (Yes, I drink water, eat small meals, try to avoid junk, etc.) About a month ago I started a regular cardio regimen– 30-60 minutes of running mixed with elliptical a day, with interval intensity training (Self magazine’s brainchild), about 6 days a week. While everyone is telling me that I look much skinnier, and my clothes do fit looser (I think I lost a dress size), and I lost an inch all over, I HAVE GAINED ALMOST 5 POUNDS. I know this is muscle mass, and I know the benefit of this, but not only am I jacked as is, I WANT TO LOSE 20 LBS. For my height it is NOT healthy to weigh this much. I want to be at my high school weight of 120. I know if I keep up the work, eventually the actual weight will start coming off. What I want to know is HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO STOP GAINING MUSCLE WEIGHT/MASS AND START LOSING WEIGHT? Has anyone experienced this irritating problem? Please help! Thanks!!!

A couple of points:

1. if you really want to just burn off the fat, get off the machine and go outside and do that High Intensity Interval training. Skip all other forms of cardio.

2. do the slow intense 70% near max on your weight training.

This is really right up my ally: http://www.igainmusclelosefat.com/

Is eating 600 calories “wrong”?

I am 5′ 9″ and weighed 150 pounds 2 weeks ago. I now weigh 144ish pounds. My goal is 135 pounds, because I have put on 15 pounds within the past 8 months. I just want to be leaner, and then once I weigh 135 I will be focusing more on toning with weights. I workout 6 days a week. When I go to the gym everyday, I use a stride machine (Precor Crossramp) for 1 hour. I burn around 600 calories when I do it for an hour. That’s what I do for cardio. Then, I use weight machines… nothing hardcore– just for toning. I use the hip abductor/ aductor on low weights with high reps and the same with the ab crunch, triceps, and leg press machines. Also, one day out of the week, I take a cardio class at my gym in which they say burns 600-800 calories per class, so I take that class instead of doing my usual workout regime once a week. Obviously, to lose weight you have to eat less calories than you burn. Now, I know the calories you burn at the gym are not the only calories you burn during the day… you have to know your BMR. My BMR is 1520.75. However, I feel that if I eat, let’s say, 1200 calories a day and I work out and burn about 600-700 calories, that I won’t lose any weight. I feel like my BMR doesn’t do anything for me. That’s why I eat approximately 600 calories a day, so that I make sure I burn that many when I work out at the gym. However, I was reading an article and I’m a little worried that i am not consuming enough calories. I never understood how people who eat 1,200 calories lose weight because that means you have to burn 1,200 calories at the gym and if they do that they must be working out for 3 hours a day. I might be wrong, and that’s why I am asking this question. I’d like somebody with experience or a personal trainer to answer this question. What’s the most effective way to lose weight and how many calories should I be intaking? All answers would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I don’t starve myself. I take 3 vitamins everyday: fish oil, multi-vitamin, and iron supplement. I eat “Better than Eggs” eggs, skim milk, fruit, and toast OR 1/2 cup of cereal and banana for breakfast. For lunch I usually have light chicken noodle soup OR lettuce wrap (tomatoes, turkey pepperoni, salsa) with fruit. For dinner, I usually have brown rice, spinach, tomatoes OR fruit salad.
I know my weight right now is not bad and it’s fine, I just want to be at my 135 pounds that I was a couple of months ago. I’m not going for the “annorexic” look, just the lean look. Once I reach my 135 pounds, I am going to tone with weights which I am sure will make me gain some pounds but it’s not fat, it’ll be muscle. And thanks for the eating more calories advice, I’ll definitely try that!
Okay, so I realized my body is in “starvation” mode… how do I recover from that without gaining my weight back. I still want to drop about 9 more pounds and I am still going to burn 600 calories everyday when I work out at the gym… but this time I will not eat 600 calories a day. I will try to eat more closer to my BMR, for a start maybe around 1,100 calories. If I only burn about 600 calories at the gym, won’t I be GAINING weight if I eat that many calories? Anybody have any suggestions of what meals I could be eating too… I don’t eat beef, red meat, or really that many cheese items. I eat lean chicken and turkey. Thank you!!!

How many Calories are OK to intake in one day?

I’m trying to lose weight, about ten to fifteen pounds.

I’m 13 and I know what is healthy and what is not.

Should I eat 1800 calories a day? Or just stay with 1000?

How much weight will I lose if I try either of those?

If you have any other suggestions, please do say them.

Help!

How many calories/weight watcher points must I consume each day to lose weight?

I used to be on weight watchers, and I was eating about 24 points a day. I’ve recently begun taking an appetite suppressent. I was surprised that it not only works, but works *amazingly*. I’m only eating about 400-800 calories a day, usually not because I’m hungry but because my fiancĂ©e makes me.
I don’t know if this will actually make me lose weight though, because I thought I needed a certain amount of calories to lose weight.
I’m not concerned with what a recommended diet would say. I want to know if I can lose weight consuming 900 or fewer calories a day.
I am really not interested in hearing anyone preach to me.
Suppressents are what work with my busy schedule. Please, just answer the question about calories and leave everything else at the door.
Giving me a lecture won’t get you voted best answer.

How am i doing with my exercise and healthy eating!?

I’m 13 years old. I’m 5’7 and weight 140 pounds. I’m not fat, but i want to get thinner and in better shape. I wanted to lose weight before school and thought that anorexia was the answer. And then after starving myself for about 3 weeks i decided that i was really stupid and i didnt want to get involved with an eating disorder like my older sister. So for the past 5 days, I’ve gone back to eating a healthy diet and exercising every day. I’d rather lose the weight a healthy way and keep it off instead of starving myself and gaining it all back. I’m going vegetarian, so ive been eating shiit ton of fruits and vegetables. I only eat about 600-800 calories a day. I know its still too little but its better than none at all. And today i had a yogurt and a bowl of blueberrys for breakfast, for lunch i had carrots with a tiny bit of ranch dressing, for dinner i had a bowl of popcorn, watermelon, a few pretzels and a whole pitcher of crystal light. Ive been going on my parents exercise bike for about 25 minutes every day but it got to be too much. So now i’ve been doing 100 sit ups, exercise bike for 10 minutes, 50 sit ups, and a 4 mile walk (fast pace) and i do 50 sit ups before bed and i play tennis every day for about 2 hours a day. I’m seeing really good results!

But do you think i’m doing enough exercise?
How long will it be until i develop abs? (btw my stomach is pretty flat, and i do at least 200 sit ups a day.)
Am i eating healthy enough?
How long will it be until i lose about 10 pounds?
What are some good low cal snacks to keep in the house?
—Sorry its so long, but if you read it and answered, thank you!!!

Help Please!! 10 Points To Best Answer!! How much weight will I loose?

If I eat 800-1000 calories a day, and exercise for 20 minutes a day, how much will i lose in 15 days? roughly.

I exercise everyday before I go to sleep, and I do 8 types of exercise for abs, that target my love handles, lower abs etc. I do about 12 types of exercise to target my whole body. And sometimes I go on the treadmill, is it good to exercise before I sleep, or should I exercise some other time during the day? I weigh 140 pounds, and I’m 16, and I’m 5,5.
I know that I should eat no less than 1200 calories a day, but I’m traveling in 15 days, and I need to loose all that fat :)
