Help? i really need to gain weight!?

Question by ☮: Help? i really need to gain weight!?
Sorry if i write alot, but the question im asking is really not simple as it looks.
Some people can eat as much as they want and can, and not be able to gain weight & this is my problem.

Im 15 & 5’2
and as disgusting as this sounds, im around 85-90 lbs.
i have nothing against people who would love to be skinny but WHY? im over here dying to gain weight. when i see a tiny stretch mark i get so exicited!
Anyways, im going to see a nutritionist because i’ve been dealing with the whole “very fast metabolism” all my life
& i would also probably have to wait till im older to get a normal metabolism.
im also tired of the assumptions that people make. With their eyes, im automatically anorexic. There are days my family would think that too, just because i wouldnt eat at the same time they eat. It kind of hurts to see your loved ones think that & people who don’t even know you to assume that. so before summer starts, i want to put on as many pounds as possible because i don’t like showing off my body because its skinny

My doctors and usually everyone would say be happy, you have a model body, & a fast metabolism. every girl should be jealous of you.
but with me, im the opposite, im jealous of the people who have a normal paced metabolism.
=/

so, before i see a nutritionist, do you have any ideas or advice that could help me gain weight?

hi, if you really want to go for acai berry weight loss you should be careful when you sign up to any free trail, as you’ll often find many hidden extras in the small print. If however, you do decide to try an acai berry free trail, make sure you never give out your bank details, and always be sure to read that small print.

Answer by Andy L.
Depending on your frame, you can probably lose 20 to 30 pounds and be better for it. Although there are some radical short term plans like the Atkin’s diet that work and other diets that substitute liquid drinks for meals, I found that the best way is not actually going ON A DIET, and instead involves a CHANGE OF DIET. What and how and how much you eat is more related to the amount of weight than exercise. Exercise strengthens muscles including your heart and makes you look toned and fit, but is not a clear measure in weight loss because building muscle also builds bone and does add weight by a bigger frame, so if toned, a higher weight may be appropriate. That stated, I found that a high fiber low fat diet as a permanent change is the best path. I have lost about 30 pounds without additional exercise. There is no cheat day because you would not be on a diet. Instead, you would have a variance day from your normal diet and should take care not to overindulge very often.
Take a multivitamin once a day like Twinlabs or Centrum or other quality vitamin to cover many body needs and cravings. Give up fried foods and high fat foods. Try to eat a lot of whole grain and vegetables and fresh wild caught fish and skinless chicken. Skim milk and fat-free dairy is OK. Drink plenty of water (at least 2 liters a day), and take at least 20 minutes to eat a meal as that is the amount of time it takes to feel satisfied. Stick to 3 meals a day and 2 light snacks maximum. Snacks could be an apple or pear or an ounce of nuts or some carrots or celery, etc.
See my answer here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgjzRgo8Uw45jN.jmmbopk7ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20111104185636AAlpG8q
and follow through the links to a general healthy plan and food nutrition tables.
Think long term. Calories in minus calories burned is the net stored or lost. If you find yourself either gaining or not losing weight from your ideal numbers, then reduce serving sizes, but there is no reason to go hungry and starve yourself. Instead, eating fresh foods with low chemicals consistently brings you to a good weight, and exercise tones and strengthens. It is that simple.

How many calories on average should I be eatting a day?

Question by maddi: How many calories on average should I be eatting a day?
Over the past two days I have averaged the calories that I have eaten and it comes to a total of 953.5 calories. I am 5’2″ and weigh 155 pounds, and I am started a diet and fitness plan to lose weight. How many calories a day should I be eatting in order to acheive this goal?

Best answer:

Answer by kestrelk8
minimum1200 cal a day. max 1500 cal a day. you need to be taking in enough so your body doesn’t go into starvation mode (i.e fat storage mode) but not too much that your body simply can not use it all and the excess gets stored as fat. it differs from person to person to play around with values in between the numbers i gave you. make sure you are getting your calories from healthy foods only otherwise it won’t work.

Whats the Risk of the lemonade/master diet/cleanse?

Answer by Mission Healthy
If you’re looking for a quick-fix to weight loss and are only planning on doing the master cleanse for two weeks or so, you won’t run into any serious health problems, so you are fine on that account :-)

However, the master cleanse really only is a quick fix and often does not yield permanent results. Much of the weight you lose is from not having any food/fecal matter in your body; your body also rids itself of the extra water it would normally use to process carbs and the like. This creates noticeable weight loss on the scale, but the vast majority of the lost pounds will return when you start eating again. However, if you eat smart when you come of the cleanse, you should be able to keep at least a few off them off long-term.

Another concern that’s often raised about the master cleanse is that because the calorie intake is so low, many people feel quite dizzy while they cleanse.

All in all, the master cleanse is not a bad way to drop a few pounds for a big event. If you’re able to function in spite of any hunger and dizziness you may experience, by all means go for it. You really shouldn’t stay on it much longer than two weeks, though; your body does need real food to function. For two weeks, though, you should be totally fine and not run into any serious health complications.

HOWEVER, I will also point out that the master cleanse requires you to chug two liters of salt water every morning to, uh, get your system moving. This can cause severe abdominal pains; after you suffer through the pain, you get a ton of salt water that comes out of your rear end. Not pleasant.

So obviously, it’s up to you, but if I were you, I’d probably skip the salt water flush and just do the rest of the diet. But that’s just me :-)

Dieting Tips

Be aware of what you drink!
It’s amazing how many extra calories are in the sodas, juices, and other drinks. Cutting out soda completely can save you 360 calories or more each day. AVOID diet soda too, the artificial sweeteners are probably not good very good for you & they tend to make some people hungry. Drink a lot of water. Switching from whole to nonfat or low fat milk is also a good idea, or switching to soy milk is even a better idea.

Move your body!
You may find that you don’t need to give up calories as much as you need to get off your behind. And don’t get stuck in the rut of thinking you have to play a team sport or take an aerobics class – try a variety of activities from hiking to cycling to rowing until you find ones you like. Not a jock, you say? Find other ways to fit activity into your day: walk to school, jog up and down the stairs a couple of times before your morning shower or take a stroll past your crush’s house – anything that gets you moving. Your goal should be to work up to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise at least 3 to 5 times a week – but it’s fine to start out by simply taking a few turns around the block before bed. This may also help you to avoid becoming a TV, video game, or Internet junkie!

Start small!
Drastic changes are much harder to stick with than small changes. Try reducing the size of the portions you eat and giving up regular soda for a week. Once you have that down, start gradually introducing healthier foods and exercise into your life.

Stop eating when you’re full!
Lots of teens (and adults) eat when they’re bored, lonely, or stressed or keep eating long after they’re full out of habit. Slowing down can help because it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to recognize how much is in your stomach. Sometimes taking a break before going for seconds can keep you from eating them. Avoid eating when you feel upset or bored – try to find something else to do instead (a walk around the block or a trip to the gym are good alternatives). Many teens find it’s helpful to keep a diary of what they eat and when. Reviewing their diary later can help them identify the emotions they have when they overeat or whether they have unhealthy habits. A registered dietitian can give you pointers on how to do this.

Eat less more often!
Many people find that eating a couple of small snacks throughout the day helps them to make healthy choices at meals. Stick a couple of healthy snacks (carrot sticks, a low fat granola bar, pretzels, or a piece of fruit) in your backpack so that you can have one or two snacks during the day. Adding healthy snacks to your three squares and eating smaller portions when you sit down to dinner can help you to cut calories without feeling deprived.

Five a day keeps the pounds away.
Trash the junk food and buy lots of fruits and vegetables! Five or more servings of fruits and veggies aren’t just a good idea to help you lose weight – they’ll help keep your heart and the rest of your body healthy. Other suggestions for eating well: exchange white bread for whole-wheat; drink lots of water and make sure you eat a healthy breakfast. Don’t skip breakfast. (Having low fat cereal and milk and a piece of fruit is a much better idea than inhaling a donut as you run to the bus stop or eating no breakfast at all!) A registered dietitian can give you lots of other snack and menu ideas.

Avoid fad or prepackaged diets.
If we were meant to eat from cans, they’d grow on trees. It’s never a good idea to trade meals for shakes or to give up a food group in the hope that you’ll lose weight – we all need a variety of foods to stay healthy. Teens, in particular, should stay away from fad diets because they’re still growing and need to make sure they get proper nutrients. Avoid diet pills (even the over-the-counter or herbal variety) unless your doctor prescribes them! These can be very addictive!

Don’t banish certain foods.
Don’t tell yourself you’ll “never” again eat your absolutely favorite peanut butter chocolate ice cream or a bag of chips from the vending machine at school. Making these foods forbidden is sure to make you want them even more. Besides, you need to have some fat in your diet to stay healthy, so giving up all fatty foods all the time isn’t a good idea anyway. The key to long-term success is making healthy choices most of the time. If you want a piece of cake at a party, go for it! But munch on the carrots rather than the chips to balance it out later in the evening. For more on Fast Foods >>

Forgive yourself.
So you were going to have one cracker with spray cheese on it and the next thing you know the can’s pumping air and the box is empty? Drink some water, brush your teeth, and move on. Everyone who’s ever tried to lose weight has found it challenging. When you slip up, the best idea is to get right back on track and don’t look back. Avoid telling yourself that you’ll get back on track tomorrow or next week or after New Year’s. Start now.

Some Dieting Rules

Remember, any successful diet means consuming fewer calories, eating less food, but eating healthy food, (see Fab Foods for more). You are fooling yourself if you think a diet that permits you to eat anything you what will help you to lose weight. To lose weight follow these simple rules:

Don’t eat a large meal in the evening when you’ll have little opportunity for exercise afterwards. It’s best to eat more at the times when you are going to be the most active. Eat a hearty breakfast, a substantial lunch, and a light dinner.

Never skip breakfast!

Eat slowly and thoroughly chew your food.

Don’t eat while you’re doing anything else like watching TV, using the computer or doing your homework.

Stop frying food.

If you must snack, stock the fridge with low calorie snacks like raw vegetables and low fat yogurt.

TWELVE GREAT WAYS TO BURN CALORIES (WITHOUT EVEN REALIZING IT)
Calorie Burning Tips

1. Instead of riding elevators or escalators, take the stairs.
2. At the supermarket park farther away from the door as you usually would. Take a couple extra laps around the market too if you have the time.
3. Instead of plopping down on the couch during “Friends”, do some house chores or better yet go for a nice brisk walk.
4. If you take the bus or the subway, stand in the aisle and let someone else have your seat.
5. Instead of going out to dinner, go out and walk, rollerblade or play pool (something physical).
6. At work, instead of taking coffee breaks, take walk breaks, and no smoking please!
7. If possible once or twice a week, ride your bike to work or to the gym.
8. Instead of sitting back and watching your younger siblings play (or if you are baby-sitting), get on the floor and play with them, at first they may think you are crazy, but they may like it.
9. Instead of letting the dog out to roam the yard, take the dog for a walk.
10. Cut your grass (with a push mower), your parents will love this too.
11. While watching TV, lie on your back and do some leg lifts or some isometrics with your arms while watching.
12. Wash the floors, it burns calories and uses many muscle groups. A clean floor isn’t so bad either. Just be careful of your knees.

Good luck dieting and remember to eat smart!

What do you know about the Master Cleanse diet?

Question by Angelica Fernandez: What do you know about the Master Cleanse diet?
I know Beyonce went on the diet and lost 20 pounds. Another lady went on the diet and lost 78 pounds. I need all the info. I can get. Please and thanks. Also, is it healthy and what are the health benifits?

Best answer:

Answer by ClickMaster
Forget Beyonce. What you know about her is what her publicist and handlers want you to believe. It may or may not be true.

Detox diets, cleanses, and supplements don’t work. There is no diet which will cause your body to get rid of toxins, heavy metals, poisonous by-products from smoking, drugs, etc. And cleanses for the purpose of weight loss don’t work because they can only eliminate water and small amounts of waste which the body will replace very quickly.

Check out these reliable references. Listen to experts, not a random bunch of strangers of unknown credibility in this and other forums. Here’s what the experts have to say about cleanses.

Article excerpt: “The human body can defend itself very
well against most environmental insults and the effects of occasional indulgence. If you ’re generally healthy, stick to giving your body what it needs to maintain its own detox system— a healthful diet, adequate fluid intake, regular exercise, sufficient sleep, and all recommended medical check-ups. Don’ waste your money…follow a healthy, balanced lifestyle instead.”

Article excerpt: “A day on a detox diet program probably won’t hurt you, but there’s little point in following these restrictive diets – and they can do far more harm than good, says Michelle May, MD,”

Article excerpt: “Detox diets are a waste of time and money, say scientists”
Ref: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article784402.ece

Your body cleanses itself naturally. And cleanses, purges, emetics, enemas, alternative and homeopathic colon cleanses etc. cannot remove fat from your body or make your body lose fat and/or toxins. If fat is your problem, you’re eventually going to realize that nothing works except a proper diet for life or surgery. The best diet for all normal adults hasn’t changed. It is still a varied, balanced, nutritious, and properly apportioned diet of high quality foods.

Detoxification is a fad and a fantasy only. If you have reason to believe you’re toxic, consult with your doctor. Don’t waste your time paying attention to advertising hype, naturopathic gurus, homeopathic charlatans, celebrity spokespeople, etc. The road to good health is paved with science. If you or someone you love gets deathly ill, you will take them to a place where medical science is practiced. So, where is the sense in abandoning medical science in favor of baseless and unscientific methods of quacks and charlatans

Good luck and good health!!

Is reverse metabolism real?

Question by stukonstarburst: Is reverse metabolism real?
I am 16. I’m 5′ 7″ and I weigh 98 pounds… I look like im anorexic but im not… i actually eat A LOT. I still haven’t started my period because i don’t have enough body fat.. This makes me feel so awkward around my friends and guys. I don’t have the hormonal feelings that all of my friends do. I am sooo prude and everything is just not working with me. I’m starting to get concerned.. It’s gotten to the point where i eat so much that i’m disgusted with myself, i’ll try to eat as many calories and as much junk food as possible.. I get embarrassed about it so i tend ot hide how much i eat by keeping stashes of food in random places that no one knows about. It’s gotten so bad. Also i feel like im even more crazy than an anorexic or bulimic because im trying to get fat. I just wanna know if this is all in my head or if there is really something to be worried about. Also, why can’t i gain weight, no matter how much i try? Do i have “reverse metabolism” or nothing at all? Please help

Nice, tummy toning workouts…?

Question by marine’s.sweetheart: Nice, tummy toning workouts…?
Something that doesn’t make you want to stop within ten minutes of the workout. I would like to lose weight that is just taking up my midsection and get a flatter looking stomach. I wouldn’t say that I am “fat” but I am considered overweight. I have knee problems so anything that doesn’t involve straining my knees would be awesome. Overall, I think (I haven’t weighed for a few weeks) I weigh about 185-190 and I am about 5 ft 1. My target weight is some where around 160, for now (just to keep it simple, but my ultimate goal is somewhere between 135 and 150). I would like to work on my midsection because it seems to be the problem areas. So far, I have lost roughly 10 pounds just from cutting soda pop out of my “diet”. I don’t work out but I do walk at least once a week. My biggest concern is my love handles and the little pouch of fat that sticks out over my jeans. I really would love to trim my abdomen because that is where most of my weight resides. Do you know any workouts that have low-knee impact, and something that doesn’t take your breath away after 5 minutes of a workout that can help me shed fat from my hip and waist area? Also, how often should I do these workouts (once a day, once every other day?) Details and possibly videos would be great, something that I can visually see will really help.

Also, if you would like to throw in some healthy eating tips it would be huge brownie points towards getting best answer and a 5 star rating. I don’t eat as much “junk food” as I used to so that is really contributing to the weight loss, but I can’t cut them out completely. I have tried multiple times to keep a food diary, all it achieved me was wasted paper. Hmmn… I think that is really all I can think of to say, but if you have any questions, please post them and I would be glad to answer them.

working out on a treadmill and elliptical both target tummy fat–especially if you don’t use your arms to balance: it makes you core muscles work
crunches aren’t the most fun, but they are very effective if you do them correctly. Go slowly, make sure you are using your muscles, not momentum
it’s best to work out every day, but you should start of with twice a week, and build up your stamina
as for food, try to stick to veggies and don’t eat a lot of salt. I’m sure you know most of this the hard part is just applying it. Many people have had good success when using a food diary to make sure they are not over eating.
lots of luck!

About a “Diet Pill” Zylene?

Question by Angela H: About a “Diet Pill” Zylene?
Ok people what exactly is this pill for? Side effects?? etc.

Best answer:

Answer by CZ
ZYLENE is cool, but the ACAI diet is NOT!

The ACAI diet is a ripoff. “They offer you a free trial and, once you’ve given them credit card details, they keep charging. They’ve charged $ 89.31 for some rubbish. Don’t get caught! This is a racket! You never know how much money will be charged to your account until you receive your credit card statement! And if you complain to your bank, you can’t do anything, because the idiots don’t give you any information! Please don’t get caught in this racket! And do not reveal your credit card details at all !”

The ACAI diet sucks! “I was promised ACAI for $ 4.99. When I went to check my statement, I saw that I was hit with a $ 44.85 fee. ACAI IS A BIG SCAM!

The ACAI diet doesn’t even work! “I tried the ACAI diet for five (5) days. No results! I had withdrawal symptoms of nervousness and depression. It took 2-3 days to get it out on my system. I should have known! I’m not using ACAI any more!”

Consumers prefer ZYLENE! For just a few dollars a month, you get Zylene. Zylene has MANY TERRIFIC ingredients as follows:

Chromium
—————
is an essential trace mineral that aids in glucose metabolism, regulation of insulin levels, and maintenance of healthy blood levels of cholesterol and other lipids. Chromium forms part of a compound in the body known as glucose tolerance factor (GTF), which is involved in regulating the actions of insulin in maintaining blood sugar levels and, possibly, in helping to control appetite.
* Increases insulin sensitivity*
* Reduces body fat*
* Reduces cholesterol and triglyceride levels*
* Increases lean body and muscle mass*

Resveratrol
—————–
is a naturally occurring phytoalexin produced by some higher plants in response to injury or fungal infection. Phytoalexins are chemical substances produced by plants as a defense against disease. It occurs in the vines, roots, seeds, and stalks, but its highest concentration is in grape skins and red wines. Resveratrol interferes with all three stages of cancer formation: initiation, promotion and progression. It is believed that Resveratrol is the reason that proves the French paradox, stating that despite the French having diets high in saturated fats, they suffer relatively low incidence of coronary heart disease. It is extracted from the shrub, Polygonum Cuspidatum which…
* Reduces the risks of cancer*
* Reduces the risk of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)*
* Increases energy levels*
* Provides some cardiovascular protection*
* Lowers blood sugar levels*
* Antioxidant effects*

Bioperine
————–
is an extract obtained from the black pepper fruit that is cultivated in the damp, nutrient-rich soil regions of southern India . The delicate pepper berries are harvested just prior to ripening and then sun dried to assure optimum maturity and quality. The extract of piperine, called Bioperine in the patented form, has been clinically tested in the United States. Bioperine significantly enhances the bioavailability of various supplement nutrients through increased absorption. Piper Longum is the flowering vine that produces the black pepper fruit.
* Increases adsorption of other supplements*
* May aid in digestion

Cissus Quadrangularis
——————————–
is a medicinal and culinary plant native to India and Africa. Phytochemical analyses reveal a high content of ascorbic acid, carotene, phytosterol substances and calcium. Cissus Quadrangularis is used by common folk in India to hasten the fracture healing process. In Cameroon, the whole plant is used in oral re-hydration, while in Africa and Asia the leaf, stem, and root extracts are utilized in the management of various ailments.
* Reduces triglycerides and LDL cholesterol levels (bad cholesterol)*
* Reduces body fat*
* Lowers blood sugar levels*
* Increases lean muscle mass*
* Antioxidant effects*
* Improves cardiovascular risk factors*

Caralluma Fimbriata
—————————–
is a succulent plant, in the cactus family, that has been used as a natural appetite suppressant in India for centuries. Like hoodia gordonii, caralluma finbriata has been used to suppress appetite, and as a portable food for hunting. It is also sometimes considered a “famine food,” used during periods of famine to suppress appetite. For centuries, people in rural areas of India have eaten Caralluma Fimbriata, which grows wild over various parts of the country.
* Appetite suppressant*
* Decreases BMI and body fat*
* Decreases waist and hip circumference*
* Promotes weight loss*

Hoodia Gordonii
———————–
is a cactus-like plant that grows primarily in the semi-deserts of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola. The chemical constituents in Hoodia, P57, work within the satiety center by releasing a chemical compound similar to glucose, but are up to 100,000 times more powerful. The hypothalamus receives this signal as an indication that enough food has been consumed and this in turn stunts the appetite.
* Appetite Suppressant*
* Promotes weight loss*
* May enhance mental performance

Garcinia Cambogia
—————————-
is a natural form of Hydroxcitric acid (HCA) which can inhibit an enzyme in cells, citrate lyase, which is needed for the conversion of carbohydrates into fat. In the cell, carbohydrates are broken down into citrate compounds, which are then converted (by citrate lyase) into another compound; acetyl coenzyme A (acetyl CoA)- the metabolic building block for fat synthesis. Garcinia can inhibit fat production and suppress appetite.
* Promotes weight loss*
* Suppresses appetite*
* Inhibits the conversion of carbohydrates into fat*
* May reduce blood lipids*
* Increases energy*

Gymnema Sylvestre
—————————–
is a herb native to the tropical forests of southern and central India and parts of Asia. It is used as a natural treatment for diabetes for nearly two millennia. The herb’s active ingredient, gymnemic acid, is extracted from leaves and roots, and helps to lower and balance blood sugar levels.
* Promotes weight loss*
* Suppresses appetite*
* Reduces “bad cholesterol”*
* Increases metabolism*
* Reduces blood sugar levels*
* May help build lean muscle mass*

Eleutherococcus Senticosus:
————————————–…
is termed an adaptogen. An adaptogen is defined as a therapeutic and restorative tonic generally considered producing a “balancing” effect on the body. In general, an adaptogen can be thought of as a substance that helps the body to deal with stress. Its action in the body is due to its stimulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis to secrete adrenal corticotropic hormone (ACTH). Scientists have worked to mimic its water-repellent, self-cleansing properties, developing a simple, inexpensive ways to create similar synthetic coatings. The surface of the lotus leaf is not perfectly smooth, but rather porous much like that of a sponge. The air trapped in the crevices prevents water from adhering to the solid.
