puberty and weight?

Question by ab workouts: puberty and weight?
This question is about weight gain. I use to have a “fast metabolism” and even had little hunger. I still think I do however I have gained weight after puberty and eating fast food for quite a long time I am around 30 pounds over weight and I know it is still early so I can get rid of it but why is it that my friends who were skinny as children still skinny after puberty(they have as much exercise as I do) but I gained weight after? I still think I do have a fast metabolism because I have not gained toooo much and I have an apetite, how would I get my metabolism back to how it was?

Also, last year I started going to the gym and I lost a little weight however gained it back since I have stopped

Confused about my eating habits!!!?

Question by : Confused about my eating habits!!!?
Hi. I’m 13 and I am a competitive swimmer. I am 107 pounds and a little over 5’1. I attend practice 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. Whenever i ask a question about food or something on here, i ALWAYS get answers like “don’t worry! your a swimmer, you can eat whatever you want as long as your exercising.” or “enjoy your fast metabolism” but i personally disagree with these. I HAVE to watch what i eat or else i GAIN weight! Like ALOT! I don’t understand why??? Like recently I ate whatever i wanted to (i normally eat healthy) and i went from 107 pounds to 111!!! thats crazy!!! I don’t get it! And i know that i am not gaining weight from muscle. I have been swimming for 5 years already. Whats wrong? Why do i gain so much weight? I thought i burned it off at swim practice?? I’m really fustrated! i know that i shouldnt be such a health nut, but i can’t help it anyways. Thanks for your time! :D

its all about burning off what you eat. If your not burning it off then your going to gain weight which is totally normal. Your supposed to be eating healthy, thats how everyone thin person stays thin. No one gets a good body by eating what they want. And yeah ive had people say stuff like “oh you exercise eat whatever you want” too. No, it doesnt work that way at all! Its a lot harder to burn off calories than it seems. so even though your swimming so much, its not going to be able to burn off a big mac and fries plus ice cream (if you know what i mean). Anyways, bottom line is just eat healthy good food and you willbe fine. Dont obsess over it, just be smart about what you put into your body.

weight/metabolism.please answer.?

Question by Brooke DeLonge: weight/metabolism.please answer.?
I’m a 13 year old girl and I’m curious. Why do some teens that arnt all that active stay so thin and eat a ton and when others eat a lot they get fat. Arnt teens and kids suppose to have “fast metabolisms”s Just give me some interesting things about a metabolism that I wanna know.

Like I’m just really curious to know more about one.

And like I hear ppl say tricking metabolism.how?

Thanks!

It doesn’t really matter about your age or gender with metabolisms. Everyone has there own. I know kids at my school that can eat an entire grocery store and not gain a pound but others (like me) can gain from 1 meal. It’s not fun. The teens that your talking about, the ones that are active and don’t gain weight from eating… don’t gain anything because they’re active. As long as you exercise or move around a lot (sports) you should have a decent metabolism. But if you sit around and watch TV all day, you can’t expect the fat from foods to go anywhere when your sitting there eating. And you can’t “trick” your metabolism. You need to eat healthy and being active so your body doesn’t store fat and it accumulates. A thing about having a slow metabolism… if that’s something someone has, they’ll probably be watching what they eat and exercising. Which means they’re going to be a lot more healthier then the person who eats McDonald’s and junk food everyday because they don’t gain any weight. Just because you have a fast metabolism and your not fat, doesn’t mean your healthy.

Does anyone else think people are trying “too hard” to lose weight?

Question by Taylor ♂: Does anyone else think people are trying “too hard” to lose weight?
Now, I’m not a very scientific person, but I do know the easiest way to lose weight, that has worked for me since I was a kid.

I was fat in my younger years 5-10, until I had surgery that effected my abilities to eat for 5-10 days. I lost about 30 pounds, and that was the day I realized, holy shit I was so fat.

I vowed never to get fat again, so what I do is when I start to gain 1 to 2 pounds, I will stop eating for a short period, or eat less <--- (eat less)

so, what I'm having trouble understanding is all these people around the world who say "they can't lose weight", or "it's soooo hard". Not eating, seriously? Hard?

Now you may counter me, by saying something like the metabolisms are different, but I swear to you. "if you do not eat, or eat less, you will indeed lose weight".

Now, as I said I'm not a science guy, so I don't really believe in Metabolisms, but I do know this...

"if you burn more energy, you need more energy".

so, working out, running, crunches etc. is not always the best way to lose weight. Sure, you can lose weight faster if you burn energy, and eat less, but if you continue you may crash. Now, when you burn energy for long periods of time (say 1 month), your mind tricks you into thinking you still need to eat the same amount of food. Wrong..eat less if you burn less.

ANYONE, who thinks "if I don't eat, I will die...please read this, and get over yourself...

"f you have water and a certain amount of physical stamina, you can survive for many days without food. In fact, you may be able to go as long as 60 days, depending on your specific situation and a number of factors."

http://www.professorshouse.com/food-beverage/food/how-long-can-a-person-survive-without-food.aspx

last, if you are having trouble fighting the urge to eat, then I would suggest replenishing your energy another way... ex. Coffee, energy drinks, Caffeine, or any other high sugar related item. You can actually gain energy off of drinks instead of foods. How does this help? Well, the only reason you get the "hungry" feel is because your mind is telling you, that you need energy, by refilling it with sugar, soda, etc. you will not feel hungry for a while. Just keep drinking :)

For any of you thinking how retarded this all sounds, because you think it's very unhealthy, I am just going to say, you have only once chance to live, and you want something do not deprive of yourself of it. If you want to be fat go ahead, this is for people who want to lose some weight, and look as good as their neighbor. If I die from "unhealthy" eating, then so be it. At least my time on earth was filled with enjoyments, that others continue to deprive themselves from. In my sense, 10 happy years is greater then 20 unhappy years.

My rant has ended.

Bowflex Revolution Workout Plan?

Well, We had recently purchased a Bowflex Revolution and lately its been sitting there. I tried to get into the habit of exercising but there is just so many exercises I don’t know which ones to perform. I am rather new to exercising, I’m 17 however. I was always told your supposed to breath specifically, how so? Also. I am planning on working out my core (abs, upper chest), arms, and legs somewhat to. Can anyone give me great workout plan regarding exercises. It came with a DVD regarding exercises but I don’t know which ones are best. Also, How often should I work out, for how long as well? I wanted to get into great shape for the summer. Any help is welcome, thanks ;)
EDIT – Also, what types of food should I primarily eat, and when should I eat them, before or after working out? And is it best to work out when I wake up, before going to sleep, or? Also what foods would help promote burning some fat and muscle growth.
EDIT – I thought I should tell you, I hardly eat breakfeast, I have two classes this semester so I am home around 12 Noon, And usually have a small snack until supper roughly at 6ish. I usually don’t eat after supper but sometimes I do. NEVER before bed however. I’m 6’1/2 and about 160 pounds. Not sure if thats overweight, underweight or normal for my height. Also wanted to ask if drinking green tea or drinking water before bed actually speeds up metabolism.

best way to lose 5 pounds?

Hi! so i’m 15 years old and i weight 117 pounds and i’m 5/4. I wear a 34D, and i’m aware that adds about 5-7 pounds to me. i also wear size 1/2 jeans. Being a teenager we are all faced with the need to be super skinny, and sadly im a victim. Im skinny, i know i am but i feel that losing five pounds could be good for me. I just recently started taking meds for ADD 15mg of Focalin XR in the morning and 5-mg of regular Foclain around 4. My meds speed up my metabolism and completely kill my appetite. Some days i go 500 calories and others i go 2000 calories. I have recently started working out every day doing multiple cardio workouts with 8 pound dumbbells. My question is with my habits how long will it be untill i shred off those pounds. I know 3500 calories= one pound, and that if i get rid of 500 calories then ill lose weight. but i’m also aware that it doesn’t always work like that. I try to eat healthy, and i’m very educated about nutrition. Lastly and other methods you can recommend to lose weight without going into starvation mode and other workouts to burn arm, and lower Ab fatt.

will i see results or should i change things?

i recently started going to the gym. i’m 5’6 and about 119lbs, so obviously i’m not trying to lose a lot of weight. I know some people are going to tell me i dont need to lose any, i could probably gain a few, etc… but the number or even BMI doesnt tell the whole story. I try not to worry as much about numbers and more how I look and feel.

with that said, I’m basically just trying to get rid of a few stubborn pounds and inches, particularly my [lower] abs and my legs. I’m trying to go either every day or every other day, giving myself a day to rest if i need it or the occasional day to just go out and have fun or relax.

im working on getting my stamina back up because its been a long time since i really worked out and i was never super athletic. but for example today I warmed up with 10 minutes on the treadmill powerwalking at about 4mph and 4%incline, then i did 30 minutes/2.5 miles on the elliptical averaging about 5mph, then cooled off with 5ish on the bike [i was going to do 15 but i saw someone i didnt want to see or talk to so i left LOL]

if i keep at this atleast 4-5x a week, will i see results soon? Should i try to lengthen the time more even if its a bit slower, or shorten it and do higher intensity? I do plan to incorporate some weight training into this, however i’ve heard its best to lose weight THEN gain muscle. I dont want to have muscle building up under fat and making me look bigger.

**Also,
when i eat, I don’t eat a lot, however what i do eat really isnt the best. But i’m trying hard to cut back on sodas, excess snacks and late-night eating. I dont seem to be gaining weight from my current diet, just maintaining basically. so i guess im lucky to have an already fast metabolism. im also very picky so it makes it kinda hard to take on a whole new healthy diet. but will moderate changes plus the exercise make a difference or won’t i see results unless i totally change my diet too?

This is how you lose weight [Not Spam] TL;DR?

In order to educate women and some men who believe that doing cardio and abs will help them shed pounds on their midsection. I also think it will help out trainers who have a hard time getting clients to understand the benefits of lifting moderately heavy weights, which is the best thing for them to do to lose weight.

Everyone knows that cardio is the best thing for you when looking to burn extra calories. Or is it? What most people don’t know is cardio can be the worst thing for cutting fat when it isn’t paired with weight training. If you ask the girl (or even the guy) on the ab machine what she’s trying to do, nine times out of ten she will reply with “lose my stomach fat.” Ten times out of ten, she won’t loss stomach fat. The number one reason for this is that you can’t spot reduce an area. When you lose body fat, the fat will be reduced throughout the body, not just from the area you’re working. If we could lose weight in just one area, don’t you think we’d look a little funny? People would walk around with rock hard abs, saggy glutes, and flabby arms. All beach guys would have fat legs because they only do chest, arms, and abs.

Stop listening to your uneducated group fitness class groupies.

You’re working too hard and burning too many calories. Your body is eating your muscle, which is slowing your metabolism down, and you aren’t strength training.

I don’t care about my muscle. What does that have to do with me losing weight.

It has everything to do with you losing weight. Your muscle is going to be what regulates your metabolism. Your metabolism is going to be the amount of calories you burn at rest throughout the day. Now this is where muscle comes in. Your muscle determines your metabolism. A pound of muscle can burn anywhere up to 50 calories a day depending on its health. The more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn throughout the day. This is known as your basal metabolic rate, an estimated amount of calories you burn throughout the day. If you don’t take in enough calories throughout the day, your body will have to get the nutrients it needs from somewhere. If you had to choose between eating fat or meat, what would you eat? Meat. Your body would too.

Meal frequency. You eat three meals a day, correct? That is ok if you’re eating the right amount of calories and your metabolism hasn’t been damaged like yours has. The trick to keeping your body burning calories or keeping your metabolism moving is to constantly put food in to be used for fuel for the body. An easy way to understand this is to think of your body as an old furnace that needs wood for fuel. The wood represents the food. To turn on the furnace, you must put wood in it. The wood will burn for a few hours, but in order to keep the furnace on, you must add more wood. The same thing goes for the body. If there isn’t any food to fuel the body, the metabolism slows down. If you are to eat every two and a half to three hours—four being the most—you will keep your metabolism constantly working. Five to six small meals should do the trick.”

Carbs are good for you, especially after a workout. Any exercise over about 45 minutes can be long enough to completely destroy your carb or glycogen storage. Glycogen is what carbs are stored as in the body. It is stored in muscles and organs. After an intense cardio session, Have you ever noticed that your muscle are flat or you feel thinner? That isn’t just from sweating out fluids. It is also from using your energy storage. This is where the whole low carb diet thing came about.

After one day of cutting out carbs, most people will lose one to two pounds, mostly from water. Not only do you lose weight, but you also feel thinner. That’s because you’re depleting your muscles of glycogen. Carbs will keep your muscles hydrated, making you feel like your muscles are bloated, hence the name carbohydrate. About two-thirds of your carb intake is used for the brain. That is why most people get light-headed until of course they get used to operating on less carbs. You will be able to function but not at your max.

If you burn off more calories than you take in, you will lose weight.

Don’t get me wrong—too many carbs are bad, but so is too much of anything. If you were able to have 2000 calories and ate 2500 calories of all protein, you wouldn’t lose weight. The same thing goes if you ate 1800 calories just from cake. You wouldn’t lose weight. Each macronutrient, protein, carb, or fat has its own job. Protein is great because it is the most versatile one.

Adding a carb in at breakfast and lunch and then two small, healthy snacks in between lunch and dinner.

What kind of snacks?A shake, fruit or almonds.

Some fats are good for you. The body needs fat for certain things, and you shouldn’t deprive your body of it. It is the secondary source of energy and also helps with joint health. There are other things your body uses fat for. But no matter how good it is for yo
u. The body needs fat for certain things, and you shouldn’t deprive your body of it. It is the secondary source of energy and also helps with joint health. There are other things your body uses fat for. But no matter how good it is for you, fat is fat in the end. Too much of any one thing isn’t any good, especially fat. It contains nine calories per gram as opposed to protein and carbs, which both have four calories per gram. That’s why fat should be kept to two servings per day in my opinion. So, yes, almonds.

As a general rule of thumb, to help portion meals, I recommend having a small amount of protein with each meal with a serving of carbs or a protein and a serving of fat. It will balance out to about the same amount of calories. If you do a fruit or almonds by itself, that is ok to start. It is a step in the right direction.

You’re Welcome.
