How can I overcome a stubborn weight loss plateau?

Question by : How can I overcome a stubborn weight loss plateau?
I’m a male 6’3″, started at 304 lbs now stuck at 245 lbs. I was stuck at 245 for three weeks. Then I went on vacation far away without my kitchen scale or calorie counters and ate pretty much whatever I wanted for an entire week (real burgers, real pizza, real ice cream, still lots of fresh fruits and veggies and all that good stuff as well). I came back and was still 245. I’ve been home a week and counting, weighing, and journaling all of my food and I’m still 245.

I have increased my activity from 30 mins walking per day to 60 mins per day. I also stand 8 hours per day at work without breaks. Generally I have eaten 2000 calories per day but I’ve also tried a week at 1800 and the weight didn’t change. I’ve heard the advice before about taking a day and eating more calories to “reset the metabolism” but in this case I took a whole week and it didn’t seem to change anything. Any other advice? I’m really happy with the almost 60 lbs I’ve lost, but I’d like to keep it going.
Finally, a response. Thanks for your insight. I’ll add that I ate raw vegan for the first four months or so of the weight loss so raw produce is pretty standard in my lifestyle. I do track fibre intake and I average around 30g per day. As for salt, I had high blood pressure and I want to get off the pills, so that is also something I monitor. Any other suggestions?

What are the 21 metabolic triggers?

Question by bill: What are the 21 metabolic triggers?
My diet has been going pretty well and am in shape again so I decided to recalculate my BMR and found some site talking about these metabolic triggers which “reprogram your metabolism” apparently. I’d like to be able to eat more than 1800 calories everyday but definitely not paying to know them.

Kinda surprised I couldn’t find an answer on google, so anyone know?

I watched the video posted on your link and I think it sounds like a really dodgy sales pitch…the lady explaining the product says she discovered the 21 triggers herself so I suppose that’s why you can’t find them on google (I searched as well and didn’t come up with anything).

Half way through the sales pitch the lady also says that you will still need to exercise and eat healthily even when you know what the triggers are so I don’t think these triggers are doing anything more than what you are doing right now on your diet/workout program. It would probably be more useful to Google some metabolism boosters and incorporate them into your diet and workout routine.

For weight loss, is it better to do a low carb diet, or lean more towards the low glycemic index foods?

Question by msmicki7777: For weight loss, is it better to do a low carb diet, or lean more towards the low glycemic index foods?
I am not diabetic, or hypoglycemic, I am just overweight and want to loose weight!

The Best way is to cut down on everything, but in small amounts

Cut out pop and fizzy drink, or, failing that; swap coke cola for diet coke etc. You’d be surprised at how many people fail to lose weight by drinking so much of that calorie filled crap…

You should be allowed into your local gym, consider joining a “Dance Aerobic” programme or gaining access to the gym equipment 3 or 4 times a week.

If you cannot do this try joining circuit training or swimming as all of these activities burn calories very quickly with little effort.

Eat in between 1800-2000 calories everyday, because anything more or less could mess up your metabolism and cause you to gain weight…

Eat 5 portions of fruit/vegetables a day, drink 8+ glasses of water everyday and try drinking a teaspoon or two of apple-cider vinegar every day, as it’s good for your metabolism.

How many calories does my body burn in a day?

Question by 내가제일잘나가: How many calories does my body burn in a day?
I’m 5’6, 118.4 lbs
I don’t do any physical activity, I sit most of the day or sleep since my ankle got injured

Best answer:

Answer by Yun
That would be your BMR, or Basal Metabolic Rate (what you burn just being alive).
Here’s a calculator: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Yours should be around 1400 calories a day, so if you don’t do anything at all you should be eating around this much to maintain weight. But since you probably do get up, sit, stand, and move about a little in your day, it’s more like ~1600 calories that you could eat to maintain weight.
Use around 1500-1600 as your guide each day, and if you still feel hungry naturally than perhaps add some more until you find a balance.
If you were to walk around somewhere, or go someplace, and exercise, the number would be higher too, closer to 1600-1800 for a lightly active person, 1800-2000 for an moderately active person and 2000+ for a very active person, or someone in an intense sport that practices everyday.

Hope that helps! ^_^

you are starving yourself. if you used to eat 2,800 calories a day and now your eating almost a third of that? that is entirely unhealthy. when you starve yourself, your body goes into a mode that will conserve body fat and burn it slowly becuase it is starving. you need to eat around 1300 to 1800 calories a day, and add CARDIO! cardio is about 60% of losing weight diet is the other 40. if you increase your intake a little more by simply adding more fruit and veggies to your small meals, and walk/jog for half an hour 3-5 times a week you will see results faster

To maintain weight I need 1800 calories a day, I’m taking in 1700 calories and I excersize and burn 500 extra calories a day, but I noticed I take in over the amount of fat and trans fat for the day, what is all the extra fat doing to me? Am I gaining weight?

What is the least amount of calories I can eat per day to still be “healthy”?

For my height and weight, (5’5”, 120lbs), it says I should have about 1800 calories to stay this size, 1400 to lose 1lb a week and so on. If I had 1000 calories per day, would I lose 2lbs per week? Or is that unethical?
