The glycemic index diet is a healthy diet in general and certainly prudent for those at increased risk of type 2 diabetes due to family history or over-weight status. In addition low salt, low fat, and low cholesterol diets are advised. In addition you should consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Beware of the pernicious advertising suggesting that processed foods have the equivalent of a serving of fruits and / or vegetables. All of the clinical trials demonstrating benefit have made use of fresh fruits and vegetables as processed food typically loses most of its nutrient value. I wish you the very best of health and in all things may God bless.
