How to work abdominal muscles with spinal fusion?
I have lower-back pain, and the various trainers I’ve encountered at my gym, etc., tell me I can resolve it with abdominal workouts – ab crunches, etc. However, I had much of my spine fused (T2-L1) when I was younger, and I can’t do those types of exercises.
Any suggestions for exercises I *could* do to strengthen my lower back, get rid of the gut, etc.?

There is no direct targeting to get rid of fat, even if you had no particular physical problems.
Have you tried air bycicling? i.e. lay down; raise legs in 90 degree; extend completely; lower to grown with slow motion. You can have some weights on your stomach or chest to compensate for the arching.
For others search for knee to the chest, pelvic lift, hip roll, and hip extensions.
