Does the South Beach Diet really work?
I’ve been researching a lot of different diet plans, and the South Beach Diet seems to be the easiest to follow. I was just curious if anybody has been successful with the diet plan, and what type of excercise you did along with the diet. Thank you ahead of time to all of those who give their input!

my grandmother got down to a size 4(she’s a young grandmother
)…..it worked really well for her but you have to stick to it.
For short periods of time it can – Don’t use it for more than 6 months or you’ll start gaining again as your body adapts.
Oh yes! You should see my friend….!
no try La weight loss my mom lost a lot of weight i just a few mounts on it it is kindof expensive though
is it really from south beach?
South Beach will work as any diet IF you follow it. Buy the book (check your local thrift store, mine had at least 5 copies). Follow the first two weeks to the letter – NO starch -NO sweets – NO alcohol. Then those items slowly ease back in to your plan. Yahoo Groups has a support ‘group’ as well.
yeah, it really does. but it’s hard to maintain. well, worth it though. power walking is great. here’s a tip: make sure you have plenty of SBD friendly snacks on hand. Good Luck!
Most fad diets will work in the short term. Ultimately what all diets are about is calorie restriction…even if they tell you this is not the case. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. Period. Typically, when people get to their target weight after a diet, they return to poor eating habits. That is why they gain the weight back, obviously. The problem with fad diets is that they are difficult to continue once you lose the weight you want to lose. People don’t LIKE to diet, and are anxious to get back to “real” food. By using a diet, people don’t learn how to eat in a way that will keep off the weight once you lose it.
If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you have to decide to make a lifelong change in your eating and exercise habits. If you are a large person, you have to work at maintaining a healthy weight. Your metabolism is slower than naturally skinny people. It sucks. I’m that way. I know people who eat fast food every day, and remain skinnier than I have ever been in my life…even while I was in the Army. It’s easy to be jealous of these people, but I choose to suck it up, and work at controlling my diet.
There are things that you will need to give up, for the most part. But you will be surprised at what you are able to eat if you are willing to lose the weight slowly and effectively, while learning proper eating habits. I actually eat more food now than I did before. It’s just that I’m eating the right kinds of food, in the right amounts, and spaced properly throughout the day.
Someone mentioned LA Weight Loss. From what I understand, they teach a proper way to lose weight, but are expensive. However, you can get all the information you need for free at sparkpeople . com. It’s the poor man’s LA WLoss. You can learn about nutrition and exercise, keep tabs of your daily diet and exercise regimen, and even print out grocery lists. There are community message boards to help you gain encouragement and motivation from other people in the same boat as you, and most likely you can even find people who live in your area. They also have nutritionists and personal trainers who add their input from time to time, and you are free to contact people for advice about your personal situations.
It’s hard work, but soon becomes routine. And if you develop the habits while you are losing weight, it will be easier to keep them up when the weight is gone.
Good luck.
