He is DEAD !!!!!!!!!!!
I would not trust his diet.
Sorry.
It is awful for your overall health. I don’t know all the specifics, but my mom was on it and her doctor told her to stop immediately. Talk to your doctor about healthier weight loss options.
It is real bad for your health and you have to stay on the diet forever or you gain all the weight right back.
It’s not awful for your overall health if you stick to the diet and don’t cheat and he didn’t die from the diet. He hit his head on the ice and went into a coma that he never came out of.
Well, although most carbs you can do without, you could be missing out on alot of the benefits of a well rounded diet as I have heard that you cut out alot of vegetables with atkins. Don’t forget to have some whole grains once in awhile.
yes it’s bad for you. You do lose weight but you’re loosing muscle weight or the good kind of fat. Go on a healthy diet, it’s a bit tougher but it’s better for your body in the long run. Also, diets are to educate your body on the proper way of eating. Try sticking to a diet that you’ll be able to keep going for the rest of your life. Personally I’ve seen people go on “weight watchers” and it’s worked great for them. You’ve gotta block that aspect of your head that’s telling you you want to eat… ask yourself it it’s your stomach asking your for food or is it just the idea that you’re hungry and that’s why you’re gonna eat.
this is the only diet that has been successful for me… drink plenty of water…no diet soda…. also check with your doctor
The Atkins diet is very low in fiber, fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants…you know, all the stuff that’s good for you, prevents cancer, reduces heart disease, etc. The diet probably doesn’t hurt for a short time, but you shouldn’t be on it long term.
No, you’re NOT loosing muscle weight either. The protien eaten on Atkins helps that problem.
I’ve used Atkins for quite some time. It helped me with a lot of my health problems. The Atkins books stated in what I read that it doesn’t hurt the kidneys. The one reason some have showed up with kidney harm is because their kidneys were bad in the first place.
If you’re really worried, just have your dr. do a simple urnine test to make sure everything is functioning right.
A lot of people mistake the keytosis that Atkins puts you into for the keytosis that diabetecs go through. Two different forms there. Just make sure you keep up with your water. Sounds like you’re doing just fine.
If you need more proof of the good this diet does, just look at the scientific studies done in the past few years. Even my dr. approved of me using Atkins.
And for those that are saying it’s an unbalance diet, sorry again. If you read the books you’ll see Dr. Atkins did the research and also ran the diet by a program that calculates food intake. There were only one or two vitamins lacking in the diet which were easily replaced with a multivitamin, that Atkins suggests taking in the first place. It’s a diet low in carbs, your carbs do not come from refined carbs, but from low glycemic fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Whole grains go into the blood stream slower than refined carbs like breads, pastas, sugars, cakes, what have you. Meat, and fats are also used. In the book it’s said to use fat in moderation.
This diet goes totally against what the heart and stroke people tell you. Notice they never talk about what your cholesterol levels will be on this diet. You are consuming unreal amounts of fat and meat. We are not carnivores, look at your teeth, we are designed to grind vegetable matter with a little meat now and then.
I asked my doctor about the diet and he said it was a good diet. Too much sugar is bad for you, why do you think there are so many diabetics now days, they are eating too many sweets, and fast food carbs. I’ve been on it for about 4 years now.
Most people who think the Atkins diet is bad actually have no clue what’s involved, like people who think you don’t eat veggies – in fact most people who go on a low-carb diet and follow it properly report an INCREASE in the amount of vegetables they eat (I eat far more veggies and fruit since I started Atkins). The original Atkins diet (not what the website says, it was bought by a commercial company that has nothing to do with Dr. Atkins), is based on fresh, whole foods, not processed crap. Your body does not need sugar, and there is nothing you can get from grains that you cannot get better from vegetables.
Although you will lose some muscle mass on ANY diet, you will lose less on Atkins because you are getting adequate protein.
And although there are some body functions that require carbs, you body is very smart and will convert excess protein to glucose.
Here is an excellent resource for those wanting to learn more about low-carbing http://www.lowcarb.ca/
And this forum offers great support for low-carbers http://forum.lowcarber.org/
BTW, Dr. Atkins died of a head injury from slipping on the ice.
I don’t know much about Atkins specifically, but low-carbohydrate diets are not a healthy choice. Your body breaks down carbohydrates into sugars for energy. If you don’t eat enough carbs to balance the calories you burn every day (on top of the 1000-1800 cal used involuntary for bodily functions), you’re body turns to your fat reserves for energy which is why people tend to lose weight pretty quickly. The more time you spend on the diet, the less fat you have and obviously less weight. But at some point, your body starts using muscle tissue for fuel as your fat reserves are gone and you aren’t eating the right foods for fuel.
Just getting the calories for a given day isn’t enough. Generally, a healthy diet doesn’t completely cut out an entire food group. With Atkins, your body chemistry and metabolism is changed. Many medical associations/research institutions have been fighting the Atkins diet for 30 years so there’s probably enough information out there for you to find out more about the cons of Atkins.
Atkins is fine if you make some intelligent choices. Obviously, you don’t want to eat beef, sausage and bacon everyday. The most restrictive stage of Atkins is the Induction stage which limits many things. After that, you begin adding more vegetables, etc. to your diet. I lost a lot of weight on Atkins and have kept it off. The key to keeping weight off when you’ve been on any weightloss diet is to monitor your weight, if not daily then weekly. Once it starts creeping up, that’s when you get rid of those few extra pounds. It doesn’t work well when those extra pounds are 30 or 40 or more!! I still use Atkins when my weight tries to creep up.
